Who are we?

Stephanie:

Miss Stephanie was one of the Volunteer Co-Coordinators for the Significant Others of SGU in 2011-2012 and she ran the Limes After School Program while living in Grenada. Three days a week she planned games, activities, and lessons to help the kids with life skills. She also helped fundraise for and build a structure for Limes to be held in. These children stole her heart on day one and she had no idea how life-changing her experience with the Limes Program would be. Nothing has been harder for her than leaving Grenada and the kids in May 2012. However, she wanted to remain connected to these children, even from a distance and so, Operation Grenada Child was born. Stephanie says “I’m gone from Grenada, but it will never be gone from my heart.”

Sarah:

Miss Sarah was the Significant Others Treasurer and then President during her year in Grenada (2011-2012). She not only ran an entire organization of 150+ people, but she regularly volunteered her time for the Limes Program and advocated for the children of Grenada. Stephanie enlisted Sarah’s help with this project because Sarah is not only a born leader, but she is also a master at coordinating and organizing. She was known by the kids as the “red haired white girl” who gave lots of hugs, patiently helped with homework, and taught yoga. Sarah says, “These humble children have taught me how much each of us are critically needed and loved in this world. Even the littlest child in Grenada can have an earth-changing impact on those around him or her and achieve incredible potential.”

Julie:

Miss Julie came to the island in January 2012, however we think she had fallen in love with these children before even arriving in Grenada. She was involved with Limes from the very beginning of her time on the island. She served as one of two Limes Coordinators in the Fall of 2012.  She loves all these kids to pieces and was known to spoil the little ones with ice cream, sleepovers, Barbie dolls, and car rides! The older kids were big fans of her as well because she played soccer with the boys like a champ!  Giving the kids a great Christmas would be the perfect way to end her time on the island. Julie says, "Limes has been a life changing experience for me.  It has changed the way I look at the world and this group of kids will have a place in my heart forever."

Laura:

Miss Laura has been actively participating in Limes for the past two years. She took over as Limes Co-Coordinator with Miss Julie in August 2012 and helped facilitate the building of a fence around the Limes structure as well as a storage shed.  She continued to run the program through May 2013 and then stepped down due to the fact that she is going to be a Mama!  However, she still remains as active in the program as she can be. She is always patient with the kids and in the words of little Kylie, (one of the children) they all “love Miss Lala.” Laura regularly reaches out to the older girls in class and is quick to notice when a child is feeling down. She often goes to the kids school carnivals and sports days just so she can see them more often. No one can deny her obvious love for these children. Laura says, "working with these children can make any bad day good, and any good day better."

Kristin:
Miss Kristin started volunteering at Limes at the beginning of the year and fell in love with the kids so fast that she knew she was ready to take over as Limes Coordinator this Fall.  One of the first things on Kristin's agenda was to help fundraise for Kylie, one of the little Limes kids who was recently diagnosed with cancer.  In less than 3 weeks, she helped raise over $12,000.00 from over 109 supporters for Kylie's cancer treatment.  Coming up with super fun and creative activities, taking the time to make snacks for the kids each and every Limes day, giving countless jockeys (aka piggy back rides), and taking the kids for fun car rides are just some of the many amazing qualities Miss Kristin has.  Best of all, she ALWAYS has a smile on her face and a contagious laugh that puts anyone in a good mood.  When the kids where asked what they expect from their teacher, one wrote "I expect good manners, a teacher that will take responsibility to help me out with things I don't understand.  A teacher that is kind, loving, and peaceful.  I think that teacher will be Miss Kristin.  I love you Miss Kristin."

Fida:
Miss Fida is one of the Limes Coordinators for the Fall 2013!  When an opening came to become a Limes Coordinator, Miss Fida embraced it with open arms.  The kids warmed up to her as quickly as she warmed up to them.  Every time she comes to class, the kids yell "Hi Miss Fida!!"  The kids love looking at and posing for Miss Fida's pictures, which she makes sure to share with the whole Limes group.  She is so thoughtful and caring with the kids and she even refrigerates their juice and drinking water so that the kids can have refreshing drinks after a long afternoon of playing.  She is amazing at thinking of games and actvities that work for kids of all ages and she never forgets about making sure we have things that interest the older kids.  Fida is an amazing addition to the Limes Program!
